Adelaide Debut of Fresh New Ford Escape SUV

Ford unveiled its latest version of the Ford Escape SUV at the Adelaide International Motor Show. It features, among other things, some stylish new looks for the exterior and interior, as well as updated safety options. Considered an excellent value, the ford Escape SUV provides a sporty but rugged feel, combined with a very functional appeal. Vice-President of Marketing and Sales, Mr. Mark Winslow, describes the Escape as “the perfect introduction to the Ford Sport Utility Vehicle range, delivering on attributes expected of a recreational SUV in a compact yet extremely functional package.” Some of the changes made were done in order to more clearly delineate between the Escape and the Territory, another Ford SUV.

Safety

The redesigned Escape houses some authoritative safety modifications as well. A new standard safety feature is the front seat side and head thorax airbags. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) are also part of the new package the Ford Escape has to offer. It also now includes on-demand all-wheel-drive to further boost its place in the SUV class.

Exterior

The fresh, new appeal of the ZD Ford Escape SUV is captured in some of the breathtaking new design features of its exterior. Its characteristic Blue Oval Ford logo is enlarged and placed over a new chrome grille to stylise the youthful look. The front and rear bumpers have also been reworked, with the rear displaying new rear reflectors.
The revitalized appearance is showcased even more with new headlamps and fog lamps, both of which are fresh and contemporary designs adding to the overall renewal of the Escape. Rear LED lamps round out the total package. Further refinement can be viewed with the addition of body-coloured wheel arch mouldings and door cladding. The 16-inch alloy wheels feature 10 spokes which add to the sporty, classy redesign. Another chic feature is the turn indicator on the side mirror which is generally reserved for luxury vehicles.

Interior

The interior redesign of the ZD Escape continues on the same elegant path as the exterior. It offers passenger comforts such as cruise-control and climate control. The centre panel and door trim is now a Piano Burgundy colour which exudes richness and elegance. The cabin redesign also boats Ellipse seat trim with an ebony bolster to punctuate the classy approach to the SUV.

Powertrain

The ZD Escape has a 2.3-litre four-cylinder inline petrol engine with a four-speed automatic transmission and the engine develops 109kW at 6000rpm and 199Nm at 4000rpm. The towing capacity of the Escape was not part of the redesign and has a capacity of 750kg unbraked and 1000kg for braked loads.

Making a shining debut at the 2008 Melbourne International Show was the brand new Ford FG Falcon that demonstrated its amazing redesign and style. Other models on display were the XR6, XR8 along with the two from the Falcon series.

President of Ford Australia, Bill Osborne, remarked that displaying the established XR6 and XR8 along with the stylish new G series vehicles were perfect complements to one another. “We’re also delighted to showcase two of the three all-new and very exciting G Series models, the G6E and G6E Turbo. This particular range offers sports luxury performance, a striking exterior, luxurious interior appointments and exhilarating performance.”

All of the models feature redesigned exterior front treatments, exterior and interior architecture, suspension, powertrains with added power, more torque, better fuel economy and enhanced safety features.

The FG Falcon offers three variations of the vehicle, hoping to inspire a larger amount of consumers and suiting a wider range of tastes. Improved fuel efficiency and safety standards are just two of the many upgrades the FG Falcon sedan range is proud to offer Ford customers.

The three families in FG Falcon sedan range are:
* Falcon XT
* G Series: G6, G6E, G6E Turbo
* XR Series: XR6, XR6 Turbo, XR8

Predominantly, the safety enhancements as part of the FG Falcon are substantially improved as they have undergone extensive revamping. One major component is the overall structural design that has been greatly improved making the occupant protection and side and frontal crash performance much more substantial. Additionally, the petrol Falcon sedans will feature a standard safety package that includes driver and front passenger airbags, front side head/thorax airbags, driver and front passenger Beltminder(r) system, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Traction Control (TC), and Anti-lock Brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA).

On the premium sedan models, front side thorax airbags are a standard feature. However, these are offered as an option on all other sedans.

An amazing new feature, a reverse camera, comes standard on G6E and G6E Turbo models yet remains an option on the XR range. The reverse sensing system is standard on all G series models and an option on the other sedans in the range. The FG Falcon Ute series will have Anti-lock Braking (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as a standard feature, and Traction Control will come standard on the XR Utes.

What’s not to Love?

The Ford Escape is as versatile as you want it to be. From driving the city streets to an adventurous off-road jaunt, the Escape is able to accommodate these needs on as much as a whim. All-New Ford FG Falcon Star of Adelaide International Motor Show

The Adelaide International Motor Show displayed four new models of the Ford FG Falcon range. They are representative of the high standards Ford is delivering to its consumers. The models are the XR6 Turbo sedan, XR8 ute, the G6E and G6E Turbo and do not disappoint onlookers as they define the ultimate in performance vehicles.

These models are accompanied by two FPV models to round out the representation by Ford at the Adelaide International Motor Show. They incorporate all types of vehicles to suit the needs of various consumers by uniting Ford know-how with European design elements. Ford Australia President, Bill Osborne, describes the new array of cars.

“Ford now has a no excuses line-up which is second to none, and when considered as a whole positively outshines all local and imported competition.” Ford’s endeavors to jumpstart its design elements on some of its models have been a success.

The Ford FG Falcon has undergone its first redesign since 1998 and is widely anticipated. Slated to go on sale in May 2008, the new model features brand new interior and exterior designs, all new front suspension, powertrains, improved torque and fuel economy, and a more sophisticated safety package. To complement the series is the fresh G Series sedan range which melds sport and luxury with its choice of exterior front end treatments and updated models.

Other Ford cars to be showcased at the Adelaide International Motor Show are the recently released Fiesta XR4, Focus and Mondeo turbo-diesel models, Focus Coupé-Cabriolet and Mondeo XR5 Turbo, and Mondeo turbo-diesel wagon. The Mondeo turbo-diesel wagon is not only fuel efficient, but also offers substantial luxury and safety features. This model is demonstrative of Ford’s forward-thinking approach to design.

Accompanying Ford’s shiny, stylish arrangement is the new floor design Ford has unveiled at the motor show. The “show room” has a new lighting arrangement and appearance, the culmination of about 250 design hours. It boasts 4,500 pieces weighing more than 60 tonnes. Adding to the modern feel is the new projection system being implemented by Ford called the EyeClick, as well as the EyeStep which creates a fast-moving environment with the display.

The Ford Transit range, named the 2007 International Van of the Year, has undergone yet further changes to enhance its utilisation, size and safety. With these changes comes a brand new model that offers larger gross vehicle mass. All twelve models that are currently part of the range have experienced some very positive changes that will only make its customers even more enamored with its quality and performance.

Safety Changes

As of March 1, all Transit models will feature four-wheel anti-lock brakes (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD) as a standard. This feature had only been part of rear-wheel vehicles in previous versions. A front passenger airbag is now standard on Transit Bus while a load area protection kit comes standard on all short, mid, and long wheelbase vans. Even more safety features include the Dynamic Stability Control and front side airbags which are now standard on the bus, cab-chassis and van ranges.

Size and Power Upgrades

The Transit model is now features even a larger carrying capacity than before. Mark Winslow, Vice President Marketing and Sales, remarks that, “We have enhanced Transit’s safety story and also improved the load carrying ability of our biggest vans. The new dual rear-wheel jumbo van is a behemoth that literally swallows a phenomenal amount of cargo.” Specifically, the redesign is a rear-wheel drive long-wheel base jumbo van with dual-rear wheels and a gross vehicle mass of 4490kg. Combined, this mass is 6.5-tonnes with a braked towing capacity of 3-tonnes.
The power of the Transit is still undeniably astounding. It has the 2.4-litre Duratorq TDCi engine that has 103kW @ 3500rpm and 375Nm @ 2000rpm. Standard features are Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and traction control. The single and dual cab-chassis extended frame models now have a larger gross vehicle mass, increasing from 240kg to 4490kg. Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and traction control now are featured on these as well.

Comfort is Key

Ford also wanted to maintain its tradition of accommodating the needs of the driver to the best of its ability. Keeping the drivers safe and comfortable in such vehicles has to be a priority. Mark Winslow elaborates. “The high ergonomic standards not only concern the driver’s seat and the position of steering wheel and gear lever but also include the excellent visibility via the large windows and the well positioned rear view mirrors.” A Professional Pack offers such options as cruise control and passenger airbags. Most importantly, the Transit line delivers a wide range of options and standards to suit the varied needs of its customers.

Fuel Economy without Compromising Power

Keeping a grasp on high rising fuel prices is of major concern. The Transit has a 2.4 litre TDCi engine with 103kW and 375Nm of torque at 2000rpm. This diesel engine has a six speed manual transmission on rear-wheel-drive models. Another engine option is the 2.2 litre turbo diesel TDCi. This is on front-wheel-drive vans and while providing great fuel economy, it also has 81kW of power and 285Nm of torque. Both are powerful yet economical choices.

The Transit van interior is especially accommodating to the needs of an active driver conducting business on the move. The first and perhaps most important major feature of the van is its comfort. The driver’s seat features 6-way adjustments critical for maintaining proper lumbar support, especially on longer journeys.

Other relaxing options are air-conditioning, CD player with MP3 capacity, power front windows and side mirrors, cruise control and a leather wrapped steering wheel available on some models.
